New Product Development FAQ
- WE NEED A COMPLETE PRICE UP-FRONT. HOW MUCH WILL IT ALL COST?
We find it does not "best serve" the client interest to attempt to provide this information early in the project. Unless the project is very small, or the specifications already developed and extremely well written, there is not enough information for an accurate product development cost projection.
Providing a client with inaccurate information, from which an important business decision might be made, is not part of our mission.
- WE RECEIVED A PRICE FROM ONE OF YOUR COMPETITORS; WHY CAN'T WE GET ONE FROM YOU?
Faced with an RFQ (Request for Quotation) with vague specifications from a potential customer, a vendor only has two viable choices:
- Delve into the project sufficiently to develop a specification and determine pricing.
- Make unfounded assumptions and build in VERY large saftey margins to ensure project profitability.
Leading product development and consulting firms receive so many inquiries that they would be driven into bankruptcy were they to investigate each one thoroughly.
A typical recourse is to plan on grossly inflated costs as a safety precaution.
Rather than provide such inflated quotations, our procedure is to keep client costs to a minimum by implementing a small initial contract to develop the specifications
and determine pricing.
The client, now armed with an accurate specification and detailed pricing is then free to continue with our services or seek other assistance.
Once in possession of our detailed specifications and accurate pricing, no client has ever chosen to discontinue our service.
Providing clients engineering expertise focusing on all aspects of new product development.
