Background
Adapticom is a small engineering firm located in Raleigh, North Carolina, which services a variety of
clients, both small and large, with new product development in the areas of chip design,
electronic design, communication products, electro-mechanical design, and mechanical design. The core of the Adapticom
staff is a small group of seasoned engineers. However, Adapticom maintains associations with peripheral engineers, allowing it to quickly ramp-up and down for large or short-term projects.
While Adapticom has broad spectrum of experience and abilities, core competencies are centered around ten specific areas:
- HDL Coding
- FPGA Design for Asic modeling/prototyping
- Analog Design
- Digital Design
- Software Design
- Mechanical Design
- PCB Design
- Prototyping
- BOM management
- Project Management
Recently completed projects include analog and FPGA design for high speed modems used in the
"True Point" digital radio
for point-to-point, high-speed digital communications. This system supports frequency bands from 6 to 38 GHz and wide variety of software selectable capacities and modulation levels.
History
In 1996 Adapticom was incorporated in North Carolina and previous "sole proprietorship" & contractor business models were brought to a close in favor of a more conventional "C" corporation.
Since that time Adapticom has provided clients with engineering services on a fixed-price, cost-plus, and hourly basis.
Adapticom provides Contract Engineering Services in the form of hardware and software development, integration, and testing services for companies with
a shortfall in engineering resources.
Filling the gaps in client company resources, Adapticom provides turnkey project delivery, and can serve as a consultant/s when clients
are venturing into new market segments.
The
Adapticom team
of experienced engineering professionals represents a variety of industries and backgrounds, providing
combined hardware, software, and product development talents to reduce client costs, improve time to market, and avoid
temporary client growth of client facilities and personnel.
Roots
Adapticom Inc. has its roots in the contracting and vendor work performed by C. McCord during the early 1980's under his own name and as the sole proprietership "McCord Consulting.
Clients from this period included Zenith Radio & TV in Chicago IL, 3M in Austin TX, along with both Grundtadt Maritime and IBM in Boca Raton, FL. Service to IBM began with in 1983
and has continued without interruption to the present. Projects for IBM have been many and varied, including small, one-man projects grossing only a few thousand dollars to large, multi-year and
multi-man projects costing hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Mission
Enable the client organization to capitalize on Adapticom expertise, by
providing engineering outsourcing, consulting services, hardware, software and internet application development services.
Engineering Services
Adapticom provides contract Engineering Services in the following areas:
- Architecture of Electronic Subsystems
- High Speed Synchronous Digital Designs
- Design Implementations Utilizing FPGAs
- Initial Electrical Design
- Complete Prototype Builds
- PCB board - Test & Development
- Raw PCB Layout and Fabrication (including fine pitch)
- PCB assembly, including placement and soldering of fine pitch components
- Spice modeling for signal integrity
- Microcontroller firmware
- Code development C, C++, Java, & Perl

- Bill of Materials (BOM), Initial Development
- Bill of Materials (BOM), Costing and Cost Reduction
- Certifications (Part 15, Part 68) and Mitigation Work
- Other Services
In today’s market, it’s not always necessary or advisable to hire direct or onsite engineering personnel. Adapticom will handle engineering workload,
billing only for the engineering work needed. Payroll expenses related to hiring direct employees are avoided, as well as the high cost of onsite
contractors, and the inefficiencies of a periodically idle engineering staff.
