Installing your satellite system for viewing from multiple Televisions

It is quite possible to watch the signal from one satellite receiver on any TV in the home without forcing each TV to have its own receiver or forcing everyone in the home to watch the same thing.

Engineering Services

If you have multiple TVs in your home and have shopped for a satellite dish only to be told by the salesperson that you would have to buy a second receiver for the TV in the bedroom along with paying extra per month for the additional service, there is an alternative; in our case, we have five TV's in our home and were not willing to go the route of a five receiver system.

Instead, we implemented a system utilizing two satellite receivers and one dish. The signal from each satellite receiver is driven onto the existing home antenna system on a specific channel. We picked channel 43 for the first receiver and channel 87 for the second. Utilizing this method allows any TV or VCR in the home to receive the satellite signal by simply tuning to either channel 43 or 87. Obviously, each TV tuned to channel 43 will receive the channel to which the satellite is tuned.

While the equipment required for such an installation is not overly complicated, it is also not particularly cheap. As a result, if there are only two Televisions in the home, one is probably better off with a receiver for each TV.

However for the home owner with three or more televisions, our implementation provides an elegant and simple solution. Since the highest quality output from the satellite receiver is provided on the video and audio RCA jacks on the rear of the unit, we installed each of our two satellite receivers near our two best and most frequently watched Televisions.

We have a reasonable sized TV and surround sound system downstairs in our family room, so we installed the first receiver in that location with the video and audio out signals connected to the TV and also converted to RF on channel 43 and injected into our cable/antenna system (the method works with either cable or an antenna system). This allows the user to view the satellite on the video inputs at the TV and all the Televisions in the home to view the satellite on channel 43.

Our best system is our home theatre system in our "bonus" room. We installed the second satellite receiver in this location, again with the video/audio out signals connected to the theatre system and then converted the satellite signal to RF on channel 87 and injected it into the house cable/antenna system. Our other three Televisions, scattered throughout the house from kitchen to bedrooms have access to the satellites signals on channel 43 or 87.

It is also not necessary to use satellite signals, one could also add a channel which displayed the output from a video camera in the baby's room, overlooking the back yard, front driveway, etc.

If you are interested in implementing a similar system for your home or business, simply mail a check or money order for $15.00 (includes $5.00 for mailing and handling) along with your name and address to:
Adapticom, Inc.
P.O. Box 91461
Raleigh, NC 27675-1461

You will receive a short pamphlet containing diagrams and listing parts required to implement a similar system.

If you would like to receive a suggested design for your specific implementation, enclose a check for $25.00 (includes $5.00 for mailing and handling) along with a short description of the types and locations of the Televisions in your home. You will receive our standard pamphlet along with a more detailed suggested parts list and a short description of tasks required for the implementation at your site. You will also be entitled to five e-mail questions and responses.

The documentation is written to be easily understood; however, some level of familiarity with connecting cable TV or antenna systems will be helpful.

If, after your use of the documentation, you are not completely satisfied, you may request a refund of all but mailing and handling charges by mailing a written request to Adapticom within 90 days of purchase.
